Who Wants To Stay WARM With Me?

I spent my weekend down in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, watching my first ever “Bama” football game in person (ROLL TIDE!). It was a TON of fun, and quite cold…even for the South. Clearly, the weather is changing all over…and for those of us who love, and I mean LOVE being warm, it takes some time to adjust…if we ever even do.

I keep hearing the same common statements from lots of people…

  • “I’m SO cold”…
  • “I am not ready for this weather”…
  • “I don’t want to go out for my workout because of the weather, or even drive to the pool”…

While some of us may never LOVE the cold weather, there are ways to make it more manageable, so I decided to share my top tips with y’all!

1. My Super “Fancy” Epsom Salt Bath: When it’s cold outside, I love ending my day in a warm tub “indulging” with this bath…whenever I do this, I find that I wake up with a warmer core body temperature which is HUGELY helpful for getting into a cold pool to swim at 5:30am…

Did I mention, Epsom Salts are GREAT for recovery?! No? Well, they are…so enjoy the added benefit 🙂

It’s quite simple – fill up your tub with warm water + all of the ingredients below (or play with them and make this YOURS), then soak for 20-30 minutes 🙂 It’s even better if you add in some relaxing music, a candle and / or something great to read…

2. Start Your Day Drinking Something Warm: Sounds like a no-brainer, right…but this makes a BIG difference. Again, this will raise your core temperature & is LOVELY to prep for a cold early morning swim or outdoor run.

My Top Recommendations:

  • Coffee (duh) with some cinnamon both in the grounds as it brews + sprinkled into your cup! (My Fav Option: https://amzn.to/2OG8Pwt)
    • Cinnamon is a great warming spice, and I use it liberally all throughout the year, but especially the Fall & Winter (it’s also a GREAT anti-inflammatory spice…who doesn’t love a little extra recovery?!)
  • A cup of warm water with fresh lemon OR a few drops of Young Living Lemon Essential Oil (this is great for digestion as well!)

3. Eat Warm Food: This is the time of year to move into more cooked / steamed meals…think soups, stews, instapot, and crockpot meals (+ SUPER easy to make!). While you’re at it, add some additional warming spices like cayenne, cumin, paprika, and anything else you LOVE!

Some Great Early Holiday Presents For YOU (hey, we ALL deserve these too)…

4. Then, Get Your Move ON: I cannot think of a better way to warm up your body than a great workout…swim / bike / run / lift / yoga…or whatever else your heart desires. If you can do this in the morning, after your warm beverage of choice (and maybe even a little warm pre-workout meal), it will set you up for a much better day.

My Fav Cold Weather Running Tip

  • Invest in Hot Hands…they are a small investment that pay off HUGE by adding them to your gloves. It’s amazing how warm hands help keep the rest of your body warm.
